How I proposed to my Bridesmaids + Some Wedding Planning Tips

Asking your bridesmaids to be a part of your most special day should never be underestimated. After all, they all play a significant and special role in your life, so much so, that you feel the need to have them stand beside you in front of all your friends and family on one of your most memorable days.  I think that deserves a proposal too! That’s why I’ve teamed up with WeddingWire to share with you how I asked my bridesmaids to be in my wedding party and give you some early wedding planning resources.

Asking Your Squad

I decided to create little crates of meaningful and relevant items to give to my squad. Each piece has a little story behind it, and went with the theme of the wedding. For example, since my wedding is going to be in California, I knew that most of them would be traveling from Miami and it would be a bit “destination” style, so I included a few California themed gifts like a hand poured candle from a local company based in CA and a small cactus as an ode to the LA dry climate and dessert vibes.  I also added a white crystal wine stopper,  floral coaster and  little can of wine since the wedding will be in a vineyard. And of course, the  “No Ugly Crying” handkerchiefs for the obvious rule of the wedding. I placed the items in a little wooden crate that reminded me of miniature versions of wine crates and personalized them with a name tag.

Since I also have a “Man of Honor,” I made him his own male version of the crate adding a wooden pen, leather luggage tag and mini bottle of champagne.

I also created a more customized box for my junior bridesmaid that was age appropriate since she is not 21. Being a student, I added a note set and some adorable pens for her.

The Wedding Planning Checklist

Besides knowing who I want to ask to be a part of my bridal squad, one of the few thoughts that entered my mind the week that Luke proposed to me is “Now what? How do I go about planning a wedding?” And although there are COUNTLESS of wedding websites, magazines, blogs and of course, past brides that always have advice, I got overwhelmed with the choices and ended up spending hours researching on how to plan! The WeddingWire Planning Checklist was a game changer! Although wedding binders are adorable and fun, they seem to be a little dated because of the accessibility. I loved that I can access this list on my phone or laptop, and it is customizable, so I can edit or remove any items that weren’t relevant. You can get started on your’s here.

What To Spend $

Something that also needs to be considered before the overall wedding planning checklist is figuring out how much you want to spend. A budget is a must for planning a wedding. If you know how much to spend, you will have more fun and be able to narrow down what kind of event you want and what vendors fit your budget. WeddingWire just launched an amazing tool to help you know an average price of what vendors charge for their service.  I remember feeling overwhelmed and not knowing “how much is too much?” because I wanted to be realistic with my expectations before I started inquiring and researching vendors. This Wedding Cost Guide gives you ballpark figures of what companies are charging. For example, did you know that the average cost for a floral bridesmaid bouquet is $75?
