It’s obvious that I’ve had a thing for culottes this Summer- actually, I’ve been wearing wide-leg pants all year long. I thought it would be most helpful if I gave you all some ideas on how to style these glamorous, yet tricky-kind-of-pant.
Proportion
Like many of the “difficult-to-style” pieces, it’s all about proportion. Before you write off culottes all together, have you considered trying on different styles of the pant? For example, with my body type, I cannot wear low-waist culottes because I have a short torso and not the tallest woman. Also, I have a pretty small frame but long legs, so showing off my ankles are extremely important when it comes to a wide-leg pant. I must wear a high-waisted option so that all the fabric doesn’t overpower my frame.
Shoes, Shoes, Shoes
Probably the most important tip I can give anyone that wants to rock wide leg pants, is wearing a shoe that gives you height. Unless you are supermodel tall, pairing heels or wedges with these pants is a must. I’ve worn culottes with flats before, but I felt frumpy the whole time. Not a good look!
Tuck It In
Sometimes all you need to do to pull the look together is tuck in the top. I don’t know how many times I have been on the fence about an outfit, but then I simply tuck in the front of the top and it magically works.
Tight on The Top
This goes for many top-and-bottom combinations: if you are styling a wide-leg pant, you should probably pair it with a more form fitting top, and vice versa. Just like if you had an oversized sweater or shirt, you would wear a skinny pant or leggings. Opposites attract!
Although these particular culottes are sold out, I’ve included some of my other favorite picks under $100 and linked them below.
PS: There is an almost identical pair linked – the only difference is the double zipper.
