January is a month for new beginnings and starting the year with a clean slate. I decided that it would be fun to go back to your closet basics and essentials that a wardrobe can’t live without.

J.Crew Tee || Current Elliott Jeans (similar under $100 here and here) || Nike Sneakers || Celine Sunnies (similar here) || Proenza Schouler Bag

There are very few looks as clean and simple as a classic white t-shirt, ripped jeans and your favorite comfy sneakers (mine being the Nikes I received from my brother for Christmas). Sometimes you don’t want to dress up or stress about what you are going to wear.

Fashion can be one of those things (at least for me), that can be overthought and made complicated. Women ask me questions all the time for advice from what colors go with what, or curiosity about the latest trends- all kinds of fashion “rules” that we think exist. But they don’t! People can claim rules or a religion that points to the perfect outfit, but the truth is that it is all made up. Don’t get me wrong, there are guidelines that point us in the right direction and give us inspiration. But fashion should be wearing what makes you feel beautiful and comfortable in your own skin. You are beautiful and loved! {Romans 8:37-39} Don’t let magazines, blogs, social media, the voice of others {or me!} get in the way of what you feel confident to wear. This year, I challenge you (and myself) to take risks in your fashion choices, make fashion mistakes, try a new color, or a bright lipstick! The only way you will know what you love to wear and discover your personal style, is if you try new things.

Hope you all enjoy this mini-series called “Back to the Basics.”
