Happy first day of Summer! It’s almost the end of June, which means 4th of July is around the corner, and it’s time to start getting out your red, white and blue! Every year around this time, I always want to wear a patriotic outfit without looking like I’m an American flag, so I thought it would be a fun challenge to raid my closet and see if I can come up with a chic red, white and blue look that doesn’t scream “firecracker.” I’m sharing 3 tips for styling your own 4th of July look below!
1
Pair your Patriotic Colors with a Neutral
You don’t have to only wear the colors of the American flag! Mix up your outfit by pairing your patriotic colors with a neutral like taupe, nude, gold, silver or black. My Gucci bag is actually what inspired this outfit with its red, white and blue strap. Adding a neutral also break up the colors, which can make you look like “Old Glory” when you wear them all together.
2
Blue can be the Denim
Sometimes blues can be a bit loud and ambitious to pair with red and white if it’s not your primary color (mine here is red). With denim being a neutral, it has the ability to tone down the color pairing, as I always pick one color to be the star and style from there.
3
Top it off with White
I don’t know about you, but white is always my go-to color for the Summer because it’s always fresh and can be paired with anything and everything, while still maintaining a chic look. I’ve had this Lacoste blazer for a few years now and always style it with everything from denim to a flowy skirt! Also, blazers are a huge trend this year and they’re not going anywhere this Summer – they make any look feel instantly polished. (Check out my blog post on blazers here, just in case you missed it.) If I feel like an outfit needs something to dress it up, I always top it off with white and it pulls the style together and gives it that little bit of elegance it needs.
