Mixing prints may seem like a pretty scary thing to do, but it is easier than it looks! This look was shot and styled while I was in Miami last week, which was inspired by all the color and Summer vibes of the city. When I bought both pieces, my intention was to style them separately, but once I took them out of the shopping bag and paired them, I thought to myself, “these actually look super chic together”. Mixing prints does not have to be a risk, and sometimes, all it takes is trying on all pieces together. At the same time, there are some important aspects to keep in mind, so I decided to share with you three tips on how to mix prints in your wardrobe.
Pick a Color
The key to mixing prints is to pick one color to match in both pieces for consistency so that it ties the outfit together.
Play With Sizes
If you would like to stay within the same print, but still want the mixed look, pick one print (like stripes for example), and then mix-up the sizes. You can style a top with small, skinny stripes and pair it with a bottom of larger stripes. Polkadots, animal prints and florals can work, too!
Go Neutral
Not sure if you are ready for the print mixing challenge? Go back to the basics, and take baby steps by mixing patterns with neutral colors only. White is one of my favorite neutrals to play with because of its subtle look. Check your closet to see if you have any neutral embossed patterns and try wearing them together. Once you do this, you will start incorporating color in no time!
