Decorating for Fall

Revealing how I decorated my current Vermont fall porch, and five ideas on how you can decorate for the autumn season- even if you live in a warm weather climate like Miami or LA.

It’s the most magical time of the year, and we are lucky enough to be in the most magical place- it’s fall in Vermont! One of the many perks of spending the autumn season in Vermont means we have a perfectly good porch to decorate with pumpkins and mums!  Being from Miami has prevented me from being an expert in decorating a fall themed porch, but I was determined to take a shot at it (plus, 96% of you voted that I should definitely give the porch a fall makeover in my latest Instagram Poll on my IG Stories). 

If you are in a warm weather climate like LA or Miami but still want to get into the autumnal spirit, I’m sharing 5 tips on how you can decorate your space to make it feel more like fall.

Decorate Your Front Porch

Pumpkins and mums and gourds – oh my!

• • Add decor to the porch like mums, pumpkins, gourds, corn stalks and hay!  Read this amazing blog post from Studio McGee for some great fall porch decorating tips: Studio McGee.

Add Fall Scents

Pumpkin spice everything.

• Did you know that smell is the strongest human sense? A scent can instantly transport me to a memory or place. That’s why I always like to switch up my candles according to the season, especially in the autumn when I am in LA or Miami where it lacks leaves, crisp smells in the air, or cool weather. 
• Spice up your (home) office and living space with some fall scented candles. My current favorite is this Pumpkin Clove one from Anthropologie.

Mini Pumpkins Everywhere

so. cute.

• Adding mini pumpkins to your desk, coffee table, console, dining room- actually, ANYWHERE- can make your space more festive. I smile every time I look down at my little white pumpkin  on my desk.

Switch Out Your Throw Pillows

• • Switch out your throw pillows with ones that have a warmer tone palette. Layer your space by adding a blanket or throw with a cozy fabric.
