“She Was An American Girl”…

Happy Pre-Fourth of July! Can’t help but have Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers’ “American Girl” song playing over and over in my head while writing this post. July 4th, my best friend Diana’s favorite holiday. I can’t blame her; the fireworks, watermelon, barbecues, beach, and most importantly spending quality time with the family. I put together three different Fourth of July looks for you all: Preppy, Bohemian and Urban.

I hoped you like the looks! I wanted to make them very casual and classic to stay true to the all- American look. The first look was inspired by the old-fashioned American style, like the coca-cola pin up girls: high waisted shorts and a floral blouse tied at the bottom. The glitter belt reminded me of fireworks (and it gave the outfit a bit of panache). The second look just screams “USA!” You can never go wrong with a white tee and ripped jeans. Add a scarf and some wedges, and you are good to go! Don’t think you can do the whole “scarf on the head” thing? (I was literally kicking and screaming “no” to the scarf on the head, but when Caro put it on me, I took one for the team. And I’m glad I did.) You can always sling it over your neck. The third look : baseball cap, cutoff shorts, and sequin stars. What can possibly be more patriotic than that?! Confession: I’m not really a sports person but I kind of love baseball. My grandma would make me watch it and go to the games with her when I was younger, I think that’s why it’s so dear to my heart! I got the Yankee cap when I went to see the Red Socks and Yankees play at the Yankee stadium in NY. Don’t ask me how I convinced my fellow Parsons peers (fashion students) that it would be fun to take the subway to the Bronx and see a game (so cultured)! It was an adventure.
